Founded October 22, 1973, NorthEast Salem Community Association, NESCA, is one of 19 neighborhood associations officially recognized by the City of Salem. Our association encompasses three city parks including Hoover School Park, Harry and Grace Thorp Park and Geer Community Park. We also are home to Hoover Elementary School and Lancaster Mall.
NESCA welcomes Fire Station 10 to its permanent location on State Street. Special interest currently is focused on the plans the State of Oregon has for the State Mental Hospital, directly adjacent to our neighborhood. Demolition has begun and construction of the new hospital will be starting soon.
Hoover Park will be the recipient of an entirely new playground area this summer. The existing playground has been removed and new play structures and swings will be added. A lighted and covered shelter has also been added to the park. This area will be used for bands to play during our summer concerts.
